Flooding At Otaki Post Office
The report of Mr. C. W. Foster, civil engineer, reg^rding the cause of the continiied flooding in the vicinity of the, .Otaki Post Office was presented' to the monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council on Wednesday night. It attributed the cause to two reasons, as follows: The concentration of a large amount of stormwater into a small channel with littl# fall,. and insufficient width and fall in the channel to allow the water to drain away quiekly enough. • "As a remedy," states the report, "I suggest that the gutter be widened to fifteen inches, the width of the culverts over it — and regraded as shown on the plan. This will relieve the flooding but may not entirely cure it. I would have. to make further observations during a storm period to give an opinion as to this. As an alternative and/or further remedy I suggest that means be examined to ascertain whether part of the storm water at present discharging into this area can be diverted to another outlet." The suggestion that the gutter be widened and regraded is to be adopted, and pt the same time eff'orts are to be made to improve the fall past the Rangiuru Road corner also. .
