Received Friday, 10.5 a.m. MANILA Sept. 9. The mass evacuation of Camiguin Island in the southern Philip- . pines was ordered today because of ■ an acute emergency resulting from | the rain of a deadly acidic" ash in new eruptions by Mt. Hibokhibok. A Philippines naval patrol ves- : sel broadcast an urgent radio ap- j peal to all ships within call to proceed to the island and remove the remaining 15,000 inhabitants. Mt. .Hibokhibok; has been erupting since September 1 . and 36,000 islanders have already been ' removed. Subsequentjy the erupting quietened and the danger to the remaining inhabitants was believed to have passed, Today's radio appeal, broadcast by Senor Arturo Alearaz, the Philippines Weather Bureau vulcanologist aboard the patrol vessel, said that all available boats were needed for the evacuation and added that order was being maintained. Guinsiliban and Binone, designated as the embarkation ports, are small towns on the south-east coast of the island, which is in the Mindanao Sea, only a dozen miles north of the big. island of - Mindanao, where thousands fled after the big eruptions last week.
