Maori Bible Revision

Representatives of the local Maori tribe returned last evening after attending a meeting at the marae, Aorangi, on Saturday, . to meet the Maori Bible Revision Committee, which f has been engaged in the task of revising |:he Maori Bible. In an interview when they returned; the ltocal Maoris stated that the committee charged with the task had been at work for some time and hoped to conclude its sittings at the end of this year or early in the New Year. Since the original translation of the Bible in Maori was undertaken, this was the first occasion pn which the Maori people had been given an opportunity to subject the language to revision, the aim being to produce a translation which would meet the existing varying dialects among the tribes. To that end the cpmmittee had moved around the country meeting tribal leaders to obtain the assistance and co-operation of all concerned. When the task was eompleted, Mr. Laughton will proceed to England t,o arrange for the printing of the new translation. The local Maoris were greatly impressed by the work and manner of the Very Rev. J. G. Laughton, chairman of the committee.
