President Truman formally launched his election campaign today with Whirlwind visits to five sonthern .Michigan industrial eentres, in which he apjiealed for Jabour's vote of confidence 1 11 his administration. He cliniaxecl his Jaoour day tour in Detroit with a warning to labour to avoid the "pious" hlamlishments of the "shrews and J i'di " Republicans seeking to restrict the fi-eedom of organised workers. President Truman tohi the workers: "If you let the Republican reaetionaries get complete eontroi of the Govemment, I fear not only for the wages and living standards of working men and women but even for our demOcratjc institutions, free lalTour and free enterprise. '
