— 9. At the August meeting ' of the Shannon Women's Institute, Mesdames Falconer (secretary), Bon'd and Claridge, of the Manawatu Federation, were welcomed as visitors. It was reported that a large food parcel sent to Britain had gone' to a home for small boys, ah'd an appreciative letter had ' been received from the matron. The Shannon Institute has now been given a link with Plymouth, Engiand, and members Were reminded to bring soap each month to be sent, to the link. Tlie weekly competitions were held and the winners were: — Parcel: Mrs. August. Bloom: Mrs. C. Stern 1, Mrs. E. Thorne 2, Miss D. Thorne 3. Cluster: Mrs. Richards 1, Mesdames Thorne and J. T. Bovis (equal) 2, Mrs. J. A. Easton and Miss Thorne (equal) 3. Shrub : Mrs. J. A. Easton 1, Mrs. C. Tremewan ' 2, Mrs. C. Stern 3. Sponge: Mrs. Thorne 1, Mrs. Swindlehurst 2, Mrs. Bovis 3. The demonstration next month is to be on . making a work box, given by Mfs. Claridge, of Opiki, and the competition is for something from a sugar-bag. A humorous competition of impersonations, organised by Mrs. D. •. Fitzgerald, was won by Mrs. Andrew. Mrs.Gage was welcomed as a new member.
