Because of tlie incpeased inci'icncc of poliomyelitis in Wellington city and suburbs, the reopening of all schools, primary, M'condary and teclmieal, has been I'ostponed for a week. Announcing that up to noon on Saturday, 12 additional cases had Ixmn notified within the area, the distriet Medical Offieer of Health, Dr. Ilubert Bmith, specified the :u-oa of the elosing as Wellington City and Hutt Valley to include the Johnsonville and Upper Hutt dist ricts. The secretary of the Welling-
ton Education. JBoard, Mr. W. I. Deavoll, said today that- the Makara, Oliaria, Mangaroa, Te Marua and Wainui-o-mata schools were included among those not to be reopened. The board, however, wished teachers to attend the schools as normally. The Teachers' Training College, Mr. Deavoll added, would reopen as usual on Tuesday. At the request of Dr. Smith, Sunday schools in the area did not open today. It was stated tonight there were 51 cases of poliomyelitis on treatment, in special wards set aside in the Wellington Public Hospital.
