■ WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. Increased margins for the farmer, including the adjustment of the allow-anc-e for weekend and hoKdav work, have been claimed by the .Dairy Industry Costs Committee in its case for the •new season's paj-out. The chfiirman , of the Dairy Boaru (Air. AV. E. Ilale) reporting to the •Dominion Dairy Conferenee said- the Costs ' Committee 's case,. unanimous'l.y endorsed liy the i>airy|4ndustry Council, provided (1) for adjustments in costs for all items under the heading of farm and factory working and maintenance costs; (2) an increase in dairy farm capitalisation eosfs ; (3) an increase in tlie basic labour re\jrard; (4) an adjustment to the allowance of 16s 6d a week for weekend and holiday work; (5) an increase in the margin of 10s between the labour rew-ard paid to tlie farm owner and the farm einplo>yee; (6) as an alternative to an^ increase in the allowance of 16s 6d for weekend and holiday work, an incentive bonus payment for increased production payable as an increased labour reward at the end of the season, the base period . to be an average of the last three years or the last live years. The conferenee subsequently endorsed a remit from the AVha.katane ward -conferenee protesting that the allowance in the guaranteed priee for weekend and holiday work was inadoquate, ancl anotlier from the Federation of Taranaki Cooperative Factories p'roposing a greater labour reward for dairy farmers with parti'culqr attention to overtime work at weekends and holidays.
