• WELLINGTON, Sep't. "2. Consideration of Div E. E. Carlson's report on the treatment of cerebral palsy in New Zealand, was continued at the annual eonferenee of the Crippleo Children Society this afternoon. The eonferenee recommended that consideration be given to the training of personnel, ihcluding teachers and oceupational and physical therapists overseas, if possible on the exchange principle. Dr. Carlson's offer t'o accept New Zealanders for training in his school in Ameriea, was reeeived with appreeiation. The eonferenee was willing that the society be responsible for registering all cerebral palsy eases and for supplementing State aid by providing extra equipment for various branches of the work among the eerebrai palsied, arranging reereation for them and ofiiering bursaries to enable qualified workers to reeeive speeial training overseas. Numerous other reeommendations by Dr. Carlson were aecepted ineluding one that the society arrange scholarships to assist cerebral palsied persons to go overseas for training in work at cerebral palsy centres. The meeting also deeided to set up a sub-committee of medieal and educational experts and laymen, to investigate finance, manpower, aecommodation and other practieal factors involved in carrying out the eonferenee 's policy on cerebral palsy cases. The sub-committee is to report to the executive council to help it secure prompt action by the Government in carrying out t'he policy. Mr. J. M. A. Ilott (Wellington) said that while remarkable work could not be expected immediately just because a series of resolutions had been passed, a big step forward had been taken in a long term programme. On his motion the meeting agreed to communicate its thanks to Dr. Carlson.
