Successful Ball Held By Fire Brigade
The annual ball held by the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade in the Druids' Hall last evening was an outstanding social success. Although steady rain fell during the late atf ternoon, the eyening broke fine but. conditions arouiid the hall beeame rather damp underfoot' as the hall continued. However, brigadesmen came to the rescue with sacks and ' -other material to give people coming to the hall dry footing. Visiting firemen were present from almost every hrigade in the district, and ■their blue anrd scarlet uniforms made a striking contrast with the | many beautiful frocks on the j dance floor. As in the past, a very energetic committee made the function ruh smoothly right from the opening bars of the music until the National Anthem was played in the early hours* of this morning. The wives of the brigadesrrien were responsible for the delight, ful buffet supper. During the evening the opportunity was taken to present the snooker competition prize, which was wo'n by Fireman F. Ciough, who was successful'! in winning all but one game- in the competition. Fireman Ciough had been runnerup for the trophy for the past two years, and his victory this year was a very popular one. As the presentation of serVice -decorations had been brought up to date last year, no ' pr'esentations of this nature were carried out at the function. A number of brigadesmen will be eligible for service bars at the end of this year, and their presentation will take place at next years ball.
