Deputation Visits Minister Of Internal Affairs

A deputation consisting of the Mayor of Otaki, Mr. C. F. Atmore, r Messrs. H. B. Edhouse, representing the Otaki War Memorial committee, W. McBeth, representing the Otaki Gommercial AssociaUun,' H. W. Hakaraia, representing the Otaki Maori Racing Ciub, and Mr. M. Roiri, representing the Raukawa Tribal committee, visited Wellington on Wednesday where. they interviewed the Minister of Internal Aifairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, and sought the consent of the Minister to the granting of a permit for an extra day's racing* at Otaki during the centennial celebrations of the historic Maori Church, probably in February next year. The Hon. T. Brindle and the Hon. R. Mawhete were also present. It was explained to the Minister that the proceeds of an extra day's .racing, if granted, would be of I valuable help to the War Memorial and the Tribal Committees in their efforts to provide suitable memorials for Otaki and district. The Minister, while sympatlietic, advised that all dates had been allotted, and that further pennits could not be made sl Vci.il clIdIg Helpfui suggestions were forthcoming for promoting the War Memorial efforts, however, and it is the opinion of members of the deputation that after further discussion they will have something very constructive to place before their respective organisations.
