The Englishmen had lost thiee for 140 before play was abandoned, and have every chance of carrying the match on to a draw. Edrich and Barnett set a sparkling pace when they opened the South of England's innings after. lunch. They scored 78 in just over an hour. Edrich completed an excellent half century compouhded of well-timed shots all round the wicket. Loxton, with 67 not out ma'de in a sha'de over even time, helped in the morning to carry the Aus-tralia-n score to seven for 522 before Bradman declared.
