Receive'd Friday, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 2. Rain washed out the last 70 minutes of the second day's play in the Australians' match against the South of England and loose.ned their grip 011 the game. The Englishmen had lost thiee for 140 before play was abandoned, and have every chance of carrying the match on to a draw. Edrich and Barnett set a sparkling pace when they opened the South of England's innings after. lunch. They scored 78 in just over an hour. Edrich completed an excellent half century compouhded of well-timed shots all round the wicket. Loxton, with 67 not out ma'de in a sha'de over even time, helped in the morning to carry the Aus-tralia-n score to seven for 522 before Bradman declared.
