Special Awards At Manawatu Competitions

Yesterday saw the Manawatu Competitions Society through another day of its 25th annual festival in Palmerston North. Dancing, singing, instrumental music and elocutionaay pupils of the Manawatu and outside districts t.ook part and again Levin entrants were prominent in the list of awards. The ju'dging concluded this afternoon, but there are to be two eoncerts of the best items of the festival tomorrow. The most notable award to come to. Levin yesterday was the J. A. Nash silver medal for demi-' character * dance, under eight years, . the winrier being John Elliott.. . He also won the character dance, under 10 years, and with Jean Berquist the tap duo, under 12 years. . In „ the .elocution sectiqn first place in three of the five classes decided went to Levin candidates. Fleur Haley won the girls' humorous recitation, under 12 years, Donald Shaw the boy's recitation, under nine years, and Marshall Maher the boys' recitation, 12 to 14 years. Faye Kirkbeck, competing in the vocal music section, won the national song class for pupils from 17 to 21 years.
