DISTRICT PLAYERS IN ALL BLACK TRIALS
* The Horowhenua district hid seven senior players in the district All Biack trial- at Wanganui last Saturday, when a combined ' Horowhenua-Manawatu team met a 4 similar Taranaki -Wanganui [ combination. They were H. iNgatana, G. Bryant, A. Woods and B. Mc-Cashin, in the lorwaras, and ! Gordon Sciascia, W. Galloway, tRoss Smith and C. Mortimer in the backs.* Ngatana, in the front row of the scrum, was a tireless worker. He 'played a solid game and was on j the ball from start to finish. I Although Bryant is only in his - first season of senior football, he showed good prospects .in the ■ loose and as a side royr man, but ■ he was not up to the standard of 1 his opposition. Woods only piayed in the first half of the game and • his locking of the scrum was excellent, while h,e also showed to i advantage in the lineouts. Mc-n Cashin played on the back of thelscrum in the second spell andii scored a fine try from fast follow- ■ ing up. : . Gordon Sciascia replaced Graham (Ma,nawatu) at the base of J the scrum when the second spell |: commenced and his all-round j ! play was good. He speeded up theji deliveries, although some of his ! passing was erratic. Galloway and Smith played be'low their : usual form, this being in part due to the- fact that Colquhoun ! (Manawaru) , at first five-e.ighths, was frequently caught before he could start his run or dispossess ihimself of the ball. Mortimer was not strong on defence, but he was under the handicap of marking the fine Wanganui winger; Henderson. ^ •
