Warrant Issued For Arrest Of Secretary
AUCKLAND, August 31. A warrant for the arrest of Walter Ashton, aged 41, former secretary of the Auckland Trade Council and :i member of the nationai executive of the Coinmunist Party, was issued to day ou the application of the police. The warrant eharges Ashton with stealing, in October, 194G, the suin of £1023 from the New Zealand Federation of Labour. Ashton disappeared on April 23 and a motor car was®found at Piha Beach. Whether tlie issue of the, warrant is a nidtter of form, has not been officiallv slated. There. have been rumours that Ashton was not drowned and that he may be in Australia.
