State Houses For Use Of Maoris
AUCKLAND, August 31. Hixty tenants frorfi the Maori popula 1 ion of thc Auckland metropolitan area, will occuply homes being specially ■illocated in the Tamaki Gtate housing liloclc at Panmure. The first of these Maori families is already in residence and it is hoped the full quota of (50 families will ko accomniodated at Panmure within about n year. The systeni iuti'oduced at Tamaki represents fhe iirst oceasioH on which- a proportion of new thvellings in a state housing scheme, hjis heen distinctlv allbtted'to Maoris \Vho become tenants of the State Advanees Corporation on similar terms to Europcan occupiers. The provision of modern homes at Tamaki will help relieve the despera'.c jdight of the Maoris who have estabiished themselvcs in the central eity area.
