World Churches Open First Assembly
AMSTERDAM, Aug. 22. The first assembly of the World Council of Churches was formally opened in Amsterdam's historic new church, and 145 cnurch bodies in 42 countries were represented by 1200 clerics and laymen. Russia declined an invitation to attend, but Hungarian and Estonian delegates are attending the 14-day assembly, which begins work on August 23.
