August Meeting Of Levin Women's Institute

A feature of the August meeting of the Levin Women's Institute w;as an interesting tajk by the secretary of the Y.W.C.A., Wellington, Miss Black, on international affairs and the work of the Y.W.C.A. The president, Mrs. Kellaway, welcomed all present. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Hatch, Seddon, ' Milne, Powell, Stack, Thompson Gibson, Summers, Maugham, Bartholomew and Jones. . The thought for the month, one by Hellen Keller and given to the meeting by Mrs. Spencer, was: "The greatest thing in the world is .the power to love and serve others in every land." The president presented Mrs. Thorpe, a foundation member, with a spray of flowers in honour of her 80th birthday. Members were asked to bring 1 lb. of dried fruit to the next- meet- * ing for- ihclusion in a Christmas parcel to the institute's link in England. A request was also made fqr tins of fat. Mrs. Kellaway won the competition for the food for BriItain fund, the prize being donated by Mrs. Hudson. The/monthly competitions resulted as follows: — Shrub: Mrs. Trotman 1, Mrs. Suhan 2. Flower: Mrs. Suhan 1, Mrs. Sharp 2, Mrs. Trotman 3. Marmalade: Mrs. Parfect 1, Mrs. Suhan 2, Mrs. Hyde 3. Handwork: Mrs. Hudson 1, Mrs. Parfect 2. Next month will be a gifc afternoon for. the Levin Farm inmates.
