Received Wednesday, 7.50 p.m. OTTAWA, August 18. Due to Canada 's steadily worsening butter suppiy prospect, tke importation of New Zealand butter- has taken on new importance. The Canadian Cabinet has been looking into every import possibility and informed sources here say that the Government may soon take action I regarding the possibility of importing 15,000,000 lbs. of New Zealand butter. * The importation would have to he a three-way agreement as present contracts call for Britain to get all of New Zealand 's butter exports until 1955. This agreement, howe#er, has a clause enabling New Zea land to divert some butter to Canada. It is believed that Canada may get 15,000,000 lbs. of the 221,000,000 lbs. going annually to Britain.
