Overseas Demand For N.Z. Pinus Radiata
WELLINGTON, August IS. tntpiiries for New Zealand pinus radiata timber supplies were received during the year from as far alield as Endia, South Africa and Palestine and the' time niay "not be far distant when New Zealand might be in a position to cultivate these wider markets. This information is given in tlie annual report of the Dominion Federated Sawmiliers' Association preseiueu to the annual conference of the assocdation today. The report adds that the production of pinus radiata in the past year ijxereased to the extent of fully overtaking the domestic demand in most^discriets. Any further expansiou in exorve productiqn therefore must depend on an export market the extent of which Was delinitely iimited by the avaii-abil-ity of shipping space and it would be unwise to count upon any increase in the number of vessels avaiiable for some time. Australia continued to be and would remain New Zealand's major overseas market for timber but the quantity being sliipped had not uiet even the fringe of the Commonwealth clemand for New Zealand softwoods.
