Otaki Playreaders Plan New Programme
The Otaki Players, whose recent productions earned such high praise, are again having their regular fortnightiy readings, which are very well attended. When the society was formed, a little over a year ago, the membership numbered thirteen; since then the number of members has almost trebied, some new members coming several miles to atten-d the readings. The standard of reading continues to improve as the less experienced members gain confldence and practice. Recent readings held included two of J. B. Priestley's plays, the unusual "Dangerous Corner" and the popular "Laburnum Grove," especially written for Edmund Gwenn. The Otaki players hope to present three plays for children towards the end of the year. These plays will be actedby adults, and great care is being taken to choose plays that will appeal to a large number. As soon as the plays have been decided upon, the members will set to work to plan costumes and lighting, in order that • the piays shall have
* everything of interest to the youthful audience. These plays shou.'d arouse considerable enthusiasm as the Otaki players have earned a reputation for thoroughness in what they undertake, and for their good team-work, which makes their productions so successful.
