Improvements To Be Made To Gas Supply

At a meeting of the council on Mpnday night, it decided to purbh.ase "a 50^.0110 cubic- fQpt stprago tank which wth be bufit with a skirting so that a second "Uft." can be installed to bring the capacity up to 100,000 cuhiC: "feet if necessary. The cost of the t-ahk will he apprpximately- £15,00Q, It was alsp decided that in vi'ew of. the pressure drop in several pf ";th'e mains, hnpravements should be made to th'e reticulation as soon as ppssihie- This. appliea- in particular to the mains north of Queen Street, where there is a con§iderable drop. in pressure between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m, It was recommended on behaif of the gas committee by the chairman, Cr. F. D. Chainey, ' that a total of 36 chains of 4 inc-h- cast iro.n main, of which there was 40: chains on hand, should be laid to help relieve these areas. Be pointed out that in Manchester Street there was only . a one inch main supplying the residents. The council -also approved the ordering of a sehedule Of pipes for further work in. street s throughout the town. This will include the laying of 46-2- chains of 6 inch pipe and eighty chains of 4 inch at a total ■cost of £2418. These improvements will prove costly and apphcation is to be made to the loans board for its approval of a loan to cover them-
