Club members held a further training ride at the weekend, on this occasion to Waikanae and back, a 21 mile journey, finishing at the Otaki Post Office. From a massed start, 12 riders, most of whom are juniors, and some having their first training ri'de, settled down to some steady pedalling. At the turn. Smith was in front, and he,.- held the lead from Searancke, Brooks, Roach an'd Juiius, and ^these riders paced well thr'oughout, maintaining the lead and finishing practically in the same order. Collis, Walsh and F. Dakin worke'd hard and did surprisingly well, considering they were unpaced throughout. Best and D. Dakin did well until the homeward journ.ey,: whep a,t Te HQ1'.?-. both eased up; Bartosh and Chevis were slow to get going, and lack of training told against these two' riders. Fastest times were returned by D. Smith (1), P. Roach (2), and A. Brooks (3), but a sealed handicap was run in conjunction with the results below, and the sealed handicap revealed the following placings: P. Roach (6 mins.) 1, R. Collis (10 mins.) 2, and E. Walsh (10 mins.) 3. Riding times and sealed handicap times were as under: D. Smith (scr.) 59 mins/59 mins. T. Searancke (scr.) 59 mins. 10 secs./59-10 secs. M. Juiius (2 mins.) 60 mins. 45 secs./58 mins. 45 secs. A. Brooks (2 mihs.) 59 mins. 8 secs./57 mins. 8 secs. E. Walsh (10 mins.) 65 mins. 52 secs./55 mins. 52 secs. R. Collis I (10 mins.) 65 mins. 43 secs./55 mins. 43 secs. F. Dakin (10 minp.) 68 mins./58 mins. P. Roach (6 mins.) 59 mins. 5 secs./53 mins. 5 secs. D. Dakin (4 mins.). R. Best (15 mins.). R. Bartosh (15 mins.) and N. Chevis (15 mins.), these four failed to finish.
