Heavy Flooding in Many Paris of Scotland
LONDON, August. 13. Beeause heavy rains and swo'llc-n rivers have flooded many paris ef Sco-.-land the Flying Scotsihan, one of Britain 's fastest trains, took 18 hours to eover the 350 miles from London to Edinburgh last night. On the River* Tweed boats were evacuating people from flooded homes and carcases of sheepr and cattle an 1 whole haystacks were Swept down the rivers. Several bridges eollapsed and many roads are blocked; All .trainrtinning north into Scotland were up to Rve hours late. Pa|-ts of the Scottish eountryside were frequently lit last night by tremOndouS flashes caused by water on the overhead electrie plyons. There has been much industrial damage and thousands of pounds of damage to crops and livestock. At the height of the flooding several centres wero eompletely cut off by road, rail and telephone.
