End of U.N. Appeal For Starving Children
Received Priday, 7 p.m. GE'NEVA, August 13. The United Nations Economic and Social Council -.irtually killed ' the United Nations' Appeal for Children which in the past few months has raised over £4,000,000 for starving children. The coitncil by 8 votes to 7 with three absentions adopted a New Zealand resolution that the appeal should end 011 De cember 31. The fate of the appeal will be finally decided at the September United Nations' meeting in Paris. Britain, the United States, Canada, Frah.ce and New Zealand all favoured ending the appeal. Dr. Evatt (Australia) appfealed for its continuation. He declared: "Children know no politics. The appeal has heen an inspiring example of how help can be given withbut thought of discrimination. "
