Otaki Borough Council's Meeting

I The Augusfc meeting of the Otaki Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday night, the Mayor, Mr. G. F, Atmore, presrding. Also present were: Crs. N. D. Anderson, E. J. Cook, H. W. Hakaraia, G. McKinley, J. Retter and the clerk,. Mr. Alex. Wiison. Advising that the lighting restrictions were to he lifted on the occasion of the Royal tour, a circu-| lar was received from the Municipab Association. A further communication from the association was] received in regard to the payment] of rates on land acquired for State! housing. The Horowhenua County Council I wrote advising of the estimate of ! its eiigineer for the cost of widen-i ing Rangiuru Road. The ietter asked if the council still desired the county council to carry out the: work. It was decided that the works committee inspect the road and settle the question as to where the actual road-iine was situated. The gi'oss load which could be carrie'd over Rangiuiki Bridge was eight tons, said a firm of consulting engineers in a letter enclosed with which was a* certificate of fitness for the bridge. By the council's decision, a notice will be erected warning residents to this effect. The Manawata Catchment Board forwarded a copy of a letter from the Horowhenua County Council giving its approval to contributing a portion of the -cost of maintenance work in connection with' the erosion caused' on Chrystall's property by the Otaki River. The communication was received. An application was granted to the Post and Telegraph Department for an extraordinary water supply. | A resident of Manuku Street, j Otaki Beach, Miss E. A. McKibbin, | complained in a letter that since ; Ngaio Street ha'd been formed, storm water had been responsible for the constant flooding of her garage and front entrance. She asked that something be done in the matter. It was decided that this ■ question could be better attended to after the visit of the engineer during the week. Appreciation of the council's gesture was expressed in two letters acknowledging donations made by it at a previous meeting. They were from the Rev. Paora Temuera, on behalf of the Rangiatea Restoration Committee and the Manawatu Branch of the Crippled Children's Society.
