Legal costs arising from a radio patents action brought by overseas patentees Avere £4S35. A grant of £250 ivas made to Lady Statham, widow of a former Speaker of the House. The Public Works Department required- authbrity to expeucl £33,639 which was the loss on imported cement to March, 1947. Its share of tlie- "cost of preparing a model of Ballantyne's building for use in the inquiry was £.1223. Expenses of petrol rationing incprred by the Transport Deparlment were* £2970. The Treasurv incurred a loss of £979 in connection with the New Zealand Legation, Moscow, through revaluation of local' currency. Services in exeess of votes by the Stabilisation Commission involved £516,716. The Electric Supplv Aecount was debited with £42,355, the compensation payments awarded by the Lake Taupo • Control Compensation Gourt: The State Goal M ines Aecount required £U,S15 i'or operating expenses of Birclnvood State mine, and £129,861 for purchase of shares and operating expenses of Kamo coalmine. The cost of acquiring the shares of the. Westport Goal Go. is set down at £890,204.
