Thirty Teams On Courts During Weekend
Despite bad weather, the Horowhenua Basketball Associatior carried throught a heavy programme last weekend, which incmded practice for two representative tearns, two matches againsi Manawatu and thirteen clut matches. The Manawatu fixture was an unexpected one and the club games which had aneady been postponec because of representative games against Hutt Valley and Te Kawau and again because of bad weather could not be deferred. With 26 teams playing in club competitions, the ' four official referees and player referees from the A Grade spent a very busy Saturday afternoon. But for the generosity of the Horowhenua College in allowing the use of its six courts, and the willingness of senior players tc referee, it would have been almost impossible to play all the games in one afternoon. For the A and B grades last Saturday saw the beginning of the second round of the competions. This is always an important stage and some interesting games should result. College B who in the first round were beaten by Aces A by a big margin were unlucky not to have a drawn game with that team on Saturday. St. Joseph's, who drew with College A in the first round, emerged the winners this time. Old
Girls A, who suffered some surprising defeats in the first round, seern now to be back to their usual strength and playing a good game. Wanderers are s till undefeated. In the B grade, competition it is more even and at this stage no one can predict the winners. In the C grade Primary A and Convent are still in a strong position, but College F and College G are improving their games aiid scoring well.
