National Savings Quota Achieved
With a total of £8507 invested in National Savings iast week, the annuai quota mark of £197,340/ the amount allotted to the Palmerston North postai district was exeeeded. Since April 1 deposits made at the. various towns in the district total £201,458. In addition to the success recorded on belialf of the district as a whole, two further iiidividual towns • attained their annuai quotas. The addition of tliese places, Weber and Weraroa, brings the total to twel've of the 24 "quota" towns in the district which have already registered annuai quota success for the current year. Weber 's achicvement adds further to the splendld record of this town which is oue of the very few places in the Doiiiniou to have been successfuJ every week since the inception of the "quota" scheme in October, 1941. Coinmenting 011 and expressing pleasure at the achievenieut of the district 's quota objeetive for the 1948/49 year, M r. N. A. Nasli, chairman of the Palmerston North National Savmgs Committee, stated that the depositing of over £2(JU,U00 at towiis in the district in approxiiuately t'our nionths was indicative oi' tlie strong support being accorded National Savings in the Manawatu.* The inoveineiit was well established and besides being of very real beneiit to thn individual savfirs. ptirticularly tho.se participating in the "group" scheme, was also playing no sinai! part in easing economic strain and thereby making a valuable contrilnition to the national welfare.
