Work on Maori Building Postponed
AUCKLAND, August 211. ; Adviee/ that ;hiean while the Government will not pj'oceed further with tlie erection of the proposed" large building at the Maori pa at Ngaruawahia as a memorial to the -Maori Battalion, has been received by Prineess Te Puea Herangi from the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr. Fraser). The proposal was that the building should serve as a grandstand during the Royal tour,. and also provide permanent sleeping accommodation for Jocal and visiting hlaoris. ' N Mr. Fraser said that in a year or two tlie Government would have made up some leeway in providing homes for the people, and she could then be assured of liis wholehearted support in' the building projeet. Prineess Te Puea said today that she was very hurt and disappeinted. The Government had changed its mind. She had not yet had the heart to tell her people, who had been working and saving for more than two years, that there would be no building:
