Popular Tokomaru Resident Honoured
There was a very large attendance at the. Tokomaru Hall on a reeent evening to pay tribute to Mr. R. W. Guy upon .hfs retirement after 30 years' service as chairman of the Tokomaru School Committee. An enjoyable evening's dancing, for' which Mrs-. Atkinson and Mr. J. Ryder provided the music, was interspersed with items. Members of the "Women's Institute entertained with two humorous sketches entitled "An Institute Member's Husband" and "On the Platform." Miss Bignal gave a club swinging item, and Miss M. Hill, accompanied at the piano by Mr. M. Pedley, played two violin solos. In a speech which paid tribute to Mr. Guy's work in most spheres of •the community's life, Mr. J. Liggins commented especially on the work done by Mr. Guy for the returned soldiers. Mr. J. R. Whyte outlined Mr. Guy's work as chairman of the School Committee and then presented him with an armchair and a fountain pen set as a token of appreciation from the people of Tokomaru. Mrs. Guy was the recipient of a posy presented by Barbara Gordon. In his brief but fitting reply, Mr. Guy expressed his thanks for the gifts he had received and thanked the members of his .committees for their assistanee, - .'
