Home And School Meeting

Between 40 and 50 parents and teachers were present at the August meeting of the Otaki Home and School Association, while quite ] a few apologies were tendere'd by ] .others unable to attend. James, headmaster, advised that ; two pupils were attending the clinic provided by the association, ; and were receiving help therefrom. ■ It was agr.eed to affiliate an'd sug- ; gestions were mooted as to the possibility of solving some apparent transport problems. The chairman, Mr. R. Bilis, welcomed new members present and intimated the committee's recommendation for the next meeting. Funds for the purchase of a visual afd are required, and the) executive is asked to meet the! school eommittee after the latter's next meeting, in September, to discuss launching an appeal. Donations are already being made and the chairman expressed the association's thanks to donors. An open forum was hel'd and some interesting • questions were handed in, questions relating to, "the problem child," the reasonsfor a problem child, and .the treat-' ment meted out after the cause had been 'discovered; self-reliance of children today as compared with twenty years ago; and vandalism and its apparent causes. These subjects were freely discusse'd by both parents and teachers in a very friendly atmosphere, and the numerous views expressed causedj not a little merriment, some inter-l esting insights into school days an'd schoiars of 20 and more years ago, being revealed. School banking was explained.l after which hostesses for the September meeting were appointed. Supper was served and another enjoyable meeting of the association was brought to a elose.
