Tremcndons seas ran m the ChanneJ and small 'ships tac'ed for shelter. The sea broke through the sea wall near Clacton, swamping 450 bnngalows and making a thousand people homeless. The Guernsey -life-boat, searching for a vacht in distress, picked up a semi-conscious man wearing a lifebelt. The storm blew down hundreds of telepkone lines in the Hastings district and damaged gafdens and fences.
