Good Football Witnessed At Otaki

Mixed conditions for •football at : Otaki on . Saturday saw a f ourth gra'de game between College and Rahui commence with the sun ■shining, but before the second half was hardly under way heavy rain •set in. The ground became a quag-i mire and" conditions were mosti unpleasant for the third grade \game between Old Boys and Rahui. The fourths turned on a realiy good display, some entertaining football being witnessed, inclu'ding! several combined efforts by the College back line. Rahui forwards, however, more than held their own^ a'nd Rahui were unmcky that more| than one of their rushes to the oppositon line di'd not meet with better luck. A nice penalty goa.l kicked by Gray, for College, was the only score registered in the first half. In the second half Rahui evened the points when Meagher, who had been playing a soli'd game, kicked past the full-back and raced away - with Guthrie in support. Meagher slipped when diving to force aird Guthrie touched down making -the scoring three-all. Mr. M. Johnson carried the whistle. Rahui thirds were without the services of W. Davis and R. Bevan, two players who have realiy shone in all their appearances this season, and there is no doubt ' their team felt their absence on Saturday, when Ol'd Boys defeated them by 11 points to three. Following hard rucking play, in which players soon became mud bespattered, D. Clapcott opened the scoring with a wellmerited try, which Juno converted. Ol'd Boys 5, Rahui 0. The home team were quickly on the attack following this early reverse, and were unlucky in not finishing off their rushes on more than a few occasions. The Old Boys fullback, Lambert, was right on his game, and showed no mercy. A try by Juno, which was unconverted, saw Ol'd Boys increase their lead before the spell ended. , In the second half Rahui was striving hard to recover, and good football resulte'd. Dribbling rushes, i in which Waaka was always - conspicuous, usually got as far as the fuli-bac'k, Lambert. Both sides were. experiencing : diffiGUlty with the greasy ball and neither side was gaining much advantage until, following further narrow misses, Rahui, scored a well-'deserved ti*y a few minutes before full-time 'sounded. The game ended Old Boys 11, Rahui 3.
