L WELLINGTON, August 4. The oilieial report on the Wellington crutcliing. salo held today states: — ! ' The first crutehing sale of the 1948-49 • season was held in Wellington today when an exceptionally large bencli of buyers was in attendance. The oft'ering coinprised 6729 bales of crutchings, >i318 bales of slipe wool and 12,605 bales of joint organisation stock wool. Tho crutchings opened attractively, being lighter in condition than in provious vears. Ho^ever, owing to drought conditions experienced in some distriets, there was qpite a variation in the growtli of the oifering. In most cases the crutchings were w.ell grown but due to the dry- season, some. lots wero-, more dusty than usual. Competitiort was very keen for the crutchings and 'all eountries were represented, realisa-' tions being very satisfactory. Short and second crutchings Sold at comparatively liigh rates. " > \ Fijllowing is the range of prices Tor crut?hings: — Good to super 261d to 3.0d, average 23d to 26d, inferior and seedy 14d to 21 d.
