School Activities Reported On By Headmaster
' The number on the roll at* the Otaki School on July ,30 was 210 boys and 197 girls j a total of 407, said the - headmaster, Mr, J. E.James, ih his rep»rt to the m,onthly meeting of the School Committee, The average attendance had -been 366, representing 90 per cent. "No infectious complaint has been reported," continued Mr. James. "A pupil, Royce Edwards, had the misfortune to break his collarbone while playing football. The distribution of milk was recommenced on July 28, approximately 75 per cent. of the roll number participating. The buildings and grounds continue to be kept in excellent order. The. Home and School Association has tlie nueleus of a fund for the purchase of a visual aid, and would like to meet the committee to go into the. matter of raising the remainderof the money. A further supply of clocks would be appreciated, as several rooms are without a timepiece." The Automobile Association School Patrol had visited the school to show "safety first" films .to the children, advised Mr. James. While at the school they had inspected . and painted white strips on the cycles, which were in a very good condition. It was surprising that some parents at times allowed machines to fall into a dilapidated condition, thereby endangering the childrenls lives. | "The visiting committee, Messrs. 'Edhouse and Wilson, visited the I school on August 2 to report on 'matters concerning the committee. Mrs. L. Henwood has generously donated £1 to be competed for in a yearling class at the calf rearing competitions."
