Indoor Basketball Games Closely Contested

There were some interesting and closely-contested indoor basketbali games last week, and a general improvement was noticed in team play and guarding. Although outclassed by Wanderers, Kimberley B played an improved game. N. Sciascia was again Wanderers' main scorer, netting 21 P°intsCollege won their game from St. Joseph's by better positional and team play. Their teani will be hard to beat later in the competition. For St. Joseph's, Des Batten played well but lacked support. C. Batten has improved considerably. The game between Kimberley A and Otaki was good. Tyler was most prominent for Kimberley, while S. Sloggett and T. Thompson were the scorers! For Otaki G. Julius and D. Hurley both played sound games. The K.B.H. -Raukawa B game was the best of the evening. For K.B.H. J. Perigo netted some fine goals and was responsible for 13 of her team's 15 points. M. Prendeville was strong in defence and worked well with J. Perigo. The Raukawa B team played their usual steady game. Better positional play, and an excellent understanding of each other's play won them the game. M. Grey, B. Hakaraia and M. Tahiwi scored some excellent shots. Combined won in a hard game from Aces A. For Aces, E. Snowden worked well in defence and N. Johnston .showed that it would not be long before she regained her last year's representative form.

Aces -had the ball for moSt of the game, but unnecessa'ry passing in the forward half, when they should have tried to score, cost them the game. Combined played a good game. M. Batten was responsible for 14 points, and was always in a position to score. E: Matulich played well in defence. The Tui A-Raukawa A game resulted in a draWp il-alL Neither 4

team was playing as well as usual, but D. Williams for Raukawa played a great game, intercepting well and always guarding. J. and B. Hakaraia were also outstanding. Tuis won their game from Aces B by default, but played a friendly game against a mixed team. For Tuis, R. Ellison played' a strong game an'd S. Dermott 'was promi« nent in tlie forwards. ^ ( /
