Paraparaumu News

("Chronicle" Correspondent) • There was a large gathering of members and friends of the Paraparaumu Beach branch of St Paul's Anglican Church Guild at the- July meeting, held at the home of Mrs. W. White-Scott. A well stocked saies table did brisk business, and was soon cleared of all saleable goods. The afternoon's entertainment was pro■vided by Mrs. :and Miss Clarkson who gave an aihusing play entitled "Finding a Doctor." As an encore, Miss Clarkson presented an amusing sketch, "The Cow." A very clever and enjoyable competition was won by .Miss R. MacLean. Much amusemeht was caused by another competition, in which each competitor had' to draw her next door neighbour. Needless to say, there were sbme truly amusing efforts and likewise some really good ones. Mrs. A. Simpson was declared the winner. A competition for a cake was won by Mrs. E. J. Ballantyne. Afternoon tea was served and a very happy party was brought to a close. Signs of, spring are well in evidence iii tAe district. The gardens are gay with spring flowers and early plum trees are making a brave showing. The Paraparaumu Beautifying Society has reason to be proud of the growth and generally healthy appearance of the trees. and shrubs planted about the roads. At this time of the year the prunus are a special delight to the eye as one passes down the main road. Many members and ' visitors attended the Mothers' Union bimonthly meetipg in. the Anglican Hall. Mrs. Carter, the guest speaker, gave a very interesting address and there Was 'Qn view a splendid display of church embroideries and handwork, which were indeed very beautiful and a.;credit to those who had been inspired to do sucb marvellous work.
