Trial Of Butcher On Murder Charge Begins
CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 2With 53 witnesses for the prosecution to be heard and possibly fhree for the defence, the trial of William Albertus Ivan Stuck, aged 40, butcher, charged that on May 14 at Paparua he murdered BertLa Bessie Amy Day, opened before Mi rustice Fieming and a jury in the Supreme Court today. Stuck, for whom Mr. G. I. Joseph, of Wellington, and Mr. E. M. Hay appeared, pieaded not guilty. Mr. A. W. Brown, and with him Mr. W. G. P. Oimningham, appeared for the Crown. 1 After the jury had been swoio in, the court was adjourned for them to arrange with the police for the latter to obtain what they vould require for tlie week during vhich they will be kept together.
