Maori Land For Titahi Bay Housing

The Government was prepared to negotiate for the purchase of a block of land (Whitireia, 375 acres) vested in the Otaki-Porirua Trust Boards, and situated near Titahi Bay, said the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr. Fraser) in a wribten reply to a question by Mr. J. J. Maher (National, Otaki) in the House this week. .*V The inclusion of the block into the State housing scheme at Titahi Bay was desirable, and would greatly improve the • economic development of the area for housing purposes, said Mr. Fraser. No plans had, as yet, been prepared by the Housing Division of the Ministry of Works for the sub-division of the block. This subject was commented on in Otaki yesterday, when interested parties expressed surprise at the answer, as the Raukawa Marae Trustees informed responsible parties two months ago that the question of the sale of the property referred to did not meet with their support.
