National Orchestra May Yet Visit Provinces

WELLINGTON, July 21. The question of wlxether the National Sj'mphon.v Orelxestra should be sexxt to provineial centres as wqll as the maiix metropolitan eities, wlxit-h was discussed in "Report from the Capital " published in "The Tiiues" two weeks ago, was aired by Mr. E. P. Aderman in the House of Representatives this afteriioon. Mr. Aderman took his eue from this article - -and asked the Minister in charge of broadcasting, Mr. Jones, whether he could g'ive a definite assurance that arraugements would be made for the orchestra to inelude provineial centres next vear. At present some idoubt existed that provineial centres miglit not be included. Mr. Jones replied that every effort was made each year when the season for the orchestra was being planned, to extend performances to inelude visits to the provineial centres. Opportunity was takexi last April to g'ive live concerts, including a special free eoncert for sclioolchildren in Invercargill-. This year it was intended to visit more provineial centres but the orchestra 's participation in the Otago centenniaJ celebrations and later in the opera Carnxen, limited tlie time available. Now that the possibilities of the orchestra bad been more fully explored, special attention will be given next year to the inclusion of some other provineial centre or centres in the coming season's aetivities.
