A New Yoi'k Times' correspondent says that according to autlioritative reports reaching the United States Governnient, Russia is not only increasing pi'essure against the Western Allies in BerJin but.also turning the serews on its Conimiuiist associates in Central and Eastern Europe, urging them to purgef all but the most dependable offieials. In the case of Czeehoslovakia, reports prediet that the Communist Premier (Air. Gottwald), the Foreign Minister (Air. Klementis) and the Minister of Interior (Air. Xosek) will soon either be replaced or stripped of mueh of their power. Similar reports are eoming in regarding Ilimgary, Yugoslavia and Poi and. -They all speak of Cominunist- pressure to solidify the parties. According to the correspondent, these reports are having a moderating effect on United States' policy because it is seen that there are forces at work in Soviet Europe that. in the long mu, can -have an influenee for good.
