Last Respects Paid To Late Mrs. C. E. Duggan

The funeral of the late Mrs. C. E. Duggan, of Te Horo, who passed away on Tuesday, in her 83rd year, took place at Otaki on Friday. j Following a service at the Metho- 1 dist Church, conducted by the Rev.; R. Grice, the remains were conveyeo to the public cemetery, where there was a large attendance of mourners and f riends to pay their last respects to one so well-known and respected. Many beautiful floral tributes were placed on the CclSkBt The late Mrs. Duggan came to New Zealand at the age of nine years in the sailing ship Waitara and, with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Barlow, landed at Napier, and later settled at Havelock North. The deceased lady travelled a good deal throughout the North Island n her early days, tranaport being vastly different then to what it is today. One trip that remained quite vivid in her memory was a journey she made at the age of 21 from Wellington to Ohau in a bullock dray. Travelling was fairly difficult and coach roads were the only routes available. At a later date Mrs. Duggan went to Foxton, where she married the late Michael Duggan in 1900. Following a residence of 20 years there, she moved to Hautere Cross. Besides an adult family of flve, Mrs. H. Waldrom (Te Horo) , Mrs. C. Flutey (Napidr) , Mr. M. Duggan (Wellington) , Mr. D. Duggan (Hastings) and Mr. J. Duggan (Raetihi), there are 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandqhildren.
