Council To Wage War On Stray Dogs
The prevalence of stray dogs in the borough was discussed at the fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council on Tuesday evening. Many councillors -.voiced their opinioh on ways of overcoming the nuisance and it. - was ultir mately decided to act on the powri ers provided under the local bylaws and thoroughly check all dogs sttaying in the borough. Those unregistered will be destroyed and the owners of registered dogs allowed to stray will be prosecuted. Speaking on the matter yes'terdgy, the town clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, said that he had received many complaints. A clean-up of all strays will be carried out in earnest and no further wamings will be given. At least a dozen dogs, many of them registered, are wandering in the main streets. A reasonable time will be given owners to get their dogs home, and' early next week the borough ranger will collect all strays and the action laid down by the council' will be carried out.
