Tasman Beach Motor Camp Discussed
A scheme for improvements to the . Tasman Beach motor .camp. was submitted by Cr. N. D. Anderson at the Otaki Borough Council's meeting on Wednesday. He advised that ln pompany, with Crs. Retter and Hakaraia, and Messrs. W. McBeth and A. .W. Buxton, representatives of the Otaki Commercial Association, the site had been freely discussed, and the recommendations which he made were the outcome of it.' The improvements included the planting of ice plants, the laying on of water, the erection of conveniences and washstands, the levelling of small sandhills, the planting of pohutukawas and tne pegging out of internai ^oads. If permission was given to peg out the roads as suggested, it was thought that the Council could give -them .extra attention from time to time. ^The general idea, concluded Cr. Anderson, was to commence laying out the' site. „ Cr. E. J. Cook contended that a start had been made, and adviseci that prior to the former council going out of office, plans had been made. He added that drainage and sewerage were two very important items that Would have to be conidered. Progress' had been held up awai ting the sale of sections. . The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, agreed, and hoped the plan aaopring the eariier features would be Wdrked, the improvements to proceed as funds permitted. ' Cr. E. T. Bartosh considered it would be a mistake to lay on water, or' to do anything that would encourage visitors, until the camp' was properly ready. "We do not want a sllpshod camp," he added. :■ Cr. Hakaraia considered that tne road outside the camp would require to be done first. As some wire was available, attention could be given the fence also. This would enable a more permanent winabreak to be erected. He added that it would also be an advantage in saving the trees already planted. The council agreed that the outside road should be the first consideration, and permission was granted Cr. Anderson to arrange to have the internai roading peggca out, and to effect other minor lmpro ve ments.
