ON THE GOLF LINKS

Deciding Those To Contest Championship Scoring in the second qualifying round oi the Levin Golf Club's championship, piayed on Saturday last, -was not very heartening to the majority of the 60 compet'itors. Despite almost perfect conditions, the oeores were poor and many failed to show the form dispiayed in previous rounds. The somewhat sticky nature of the greens and approaches f-ound nearly all players otruggimg to be near the pin, and scores mounted alarmingly in consequence. One player only, A. -T. Nicolls, found, the going to his liking. He broke 70 nett, a well-merited success as he is a consistent performer. Another pleasing feature was the round of J. N. Sams, a low handicapper who played two below his handicap, in recording the best gross- score of the day, a 78 which may be the forerunners of many good scores at a very convenient time of the season. Also recording two below par, A. E. Bennett showed that he is again striking the form that has helped him in the past to be a stern opponent in match play over several seasons. The following gross scores have been recorded by all players who have handed in two cards, irrespective of their grading: — A. F. Landers 80—80—160, E. W. Clark 78—83—161, D. Clark 80—84— 164, S. C.
