Vegetables Keenly Sought; Flowers Easier

Messrs. Townsend and Faul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington,. report that supplies of tree tomatoes having aimost ceased, prices have risen accordingly to very attractive values. Large consignments of overseas oranges'have slowed the sale of grapefruit, and Meyer lemons ' very considerably. All varieties of vegetables are keenly sought after, and have brought very attractive prices. Sprouts, spinach, lettuce and parsnips are in particulariy keen demand. In spite of larger supplies, cauliflov/ers still bring attractive values. Spring bulbs are still weil sought after, while larger supplies of violets have resulted in an easier market. Very little poultry has been coming' to hand, -and the demand for young and heavy birds is very good in'deed. Quotations are: — Fruit: Chinese gooseberries, 6d to ls.per lb.; tree tomatoes, 6s to 16s; grapefruit, 10s to 15s per case; Meyer lemons, 5s to 6s half case-passion-fruit, 3s to 4s per-dozen. Flowers: Sol d'Ors, 6s to 18s; paper whites, 4s 6d' to 7s 6d; jonquils, 7s to 9s 6d; tangerine poppies, '6s to 11s 6d; art shades, 7s 6d to 16s 6d per gross; violets, 4s 6d to 11s 6d; carnations, 3s 6d to 9s per dozen. Vegetables: Cabbage, silver beet, ceiiing; Ohakune carrots, ceiling; others, 10s to 14s per sack; red pumpkins, 6s to 9s; triumble, 12s to 16s; cauliflowers, best, 18s to 24s; others, 14s to 17s; swedes, 8s per sack; leeks, 27s to 32s; celery, best, 30s to 35s; rhubarb, best, 25s to 28s; others, 15s to 20s; spinach, 20s to 25s; beetroot, 12s to 14s per case; artichokes, 8s to 10s per sugar-bag; Brussels sprouts, ls 3d to ls 6d lb. Poultry: White leghorn hens, 3s 3d to 7s; black orpingtons, 6s 6d to 12s 6d; Rhode Island reds, best, 13s j 6d to 15s 6d; cockerels, black 'orpingtons, 8s to 10s 6d; white leghorns, 6s to 7s; roosters, 4s- to 6s 6d; white ducks, 10s 6d to 13s ; coloured, 7s to 9s; guinea fowls, 14s to 17s each; turkeys, 2s 2d to 2s 3d per lb. live weight.
