Women Trampers Assist With Track Work
Not only d-oes walking along bush tracks, climbing mountains and camping out in the open appeal to trampers, but there is also a facination attached to track cutting. Women members of the LevlnWaiopehu Tramping Club assisted the men in clearing and shortening the Waiopehu Track at the weekend. After a tlime their eagerness was haltcd by the appearance of hand blisters as they swung the heavy slashers, but a trip to the first aid kit soon relieved this condition and work resumed. After a day's solid work on the track, the party returned to Palmer's Camp for th° night, where the tents were erected and the usual camp fire lit. improvement in the weather and when work was about to be commenced on the track a sudden thunder-storm made its appear-'i ance, aceompanied by heavy l showers of hail. As this was of ' brief duration, hov/ever, the party was able to proceed up the track in the late morning and continue with the work. By mid-afternoon considerable progress had been ' made, which included almost the i completion of a large deviation. I
