Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. mSVDNEY, July 14. • The miners at the Commonwealth open cut colliery orn Western Field, saved a coal losS today and assisted a widow by abandoning what has become a standard custom in New South Wales coal mines. Instead of taking a day off following the death of a workmate, they decided to work and give their day's wages to the widow. The mine employs 145 men and produces 1082 tons daily. The wages bill for one day is about £150. The vietim of the accident was a fitter who was crushed between a loader and truck. All mines in Western Field are working today but eight stoppages in the north and two in the south will lose 7000 tons of eoal.
