Received Monday, 8.50 p.m. NEW YORK, julv 12. An air of gloom and despondencv hung over 1500 Deinocratic delegates as thev px;epared to attend the opening in Philadelphia today of the. Party con-' vention. All serious opposition to President Truman as the party 's presidential eandidate, has been swept awsty and his overwhebning nomination taken for granted. The spirit of defeatism among many influential Party members amounted almost to a confession that the Republican Presidential eandidate, Governor Dewey, will oust the present Democratic administration in the Noveinber election. The mood of this convention was in marked eontrast to the Republican^' three weeks ago. Tbe Republicans appeared confldent of victory in Noveinber. •
