Party con-' vention. All serious opposition to President Truman as the party 's presidential eandidate, has been swept awsty and his overwhebning nomination taken for granted. The spirit of defeatism among many influential Party members amounted almost to a confession that the Republican Presidential eandidate, Governor Dewey, will oust the present Democratic administration in the Noveinber election. The mood of this convention was in marked eontrast to the Republican^' three weeks ago. Tbe Republicans appeared confldent of victory in Noveinber. •
