Rain Prevents Play In Third Test

R.ain which had been falling for several hours in the forrn of heavy showers prpvented any play in the th.rd cricket test today— the fourth day of the match— at Old TraffordJ Manchester. At 1 p.m. the pitch was flooded' and after an inspection at 2.15 p.m., the captains, Bradman an'd Yardley, decided that play was impossibie. It was still raining lightly at that time. In spite of the possibility of no play, many hundreds of spectators were on the grouiTd keeping their seats 4ry, The Australian, Sidney Barnes, who was hurt when struck by a fast ball from Pollard on Friday, leaves hospital tomorpow. He is much better but will take no further part in this match as the Austraiians want him flt for the fourth test at Leeds. This means that Australia will only have ten batsmen for their second innings, an'd may influenee Yardley in • deciding how long ro eontinue Englapd's second innings. With Australia 316 runs behin'd Yardley may declgre Englarid's innipgs closed and then att'empt to dismiss the Austraiians quickly.
